Baby Matteo was born at Mater Dei Hospital in Malta on 18th December 2021 as a T21 (Down Syndrome) baby with a large Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD). His journey took him and his family to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, but after a series of complications, Matteo peacefully fell asleep forever on 2nd March 2022.
From immense love and loss, the Baby Matteo Foundation was born — a living legacy that continues Matteo’s light through compassion, care, and community support.
Our foundation stands for every parent who has faced the heartbreak of saying goodbye too soon. We exist to offer comfort, understanding, and hope — turning grief into purpose, and love into meaningful action.
At the Baby Matteo Foundation, our mission is to bring light and comfort to families facing the unimaginable loss of a baby. Through compassion, community, and meaningful action, we work to ensure that no parent ever feels alone during their time of grief.
We raise awareness about pregnancy and infant loss, provide emotional and practical support during and after hospital experiences, and improve bereavement facilities at Mater Dei and Gozo General Hospital so parents can say goodbye in peace and dignity.
We also assist families who travel abroad for medical care, helping ease emotional and financial burdens. Through fundraising, remembrance events, and community engagement, we honor Baby Matteo’s legacy — love, hope, and solidarity.
Providing CuddleCots for Mater Dei and Gozo General Hospitals, allowing families precious time with their baby after loss.
Creating peaceful rooms where parents can visit their baby — inspired by care at GOSH London.
Offering emotional and logistical assistance to families who must travel overseas for specialized medical care.
Preparing keepsake boxes with meaningful items to help parents preserve their baby’s memory.
Throughout the year, we organize heartfelt activities and fundraising events to support families, improve hospital facilities, and keep the memory of precious babies alive.
We prepare gifts and remembrance items for babies and their parents at the NPICU at Mater Dei Hospital on Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter, and other occasions.
Community fundraisers like the Wave of Light and awareness events raise funds for hospital projects, keepsakes, and family support initiatives.
Every candle lit, keepsake given, and donation made spreads love, compassion, and hope — no family walks alone.
Every act of kindness helps carry forward Baby Matteo’s legacy. Whether through volunteering, donating, or sponsoring a project, you can bring hope and care to families during their most difficult moments.
Each candle represents love, remembrance, and support for families who have experienced baby loss. Your purchase helps us raise funds to improve care and facilities for bereaved families.
